| Greater success through gratitude and responsibility By: Lenka Majstrikova "Ninety-nine percent of all failures come from people who have a habit of making excuses." Successful people take a full responsibility for their results and do not look outside to blame something or someone for their falls and lack of success. They don’t use words such as “It’s because of my business partners...it’s because of bad economy...it’s because of those people...” – they always look for the cause inside of them. Unsuccessful people believe that life happens to them. Successful people believe they are creators of their life. In NLP (Neuro – Linguistic Programming), we call this being at the cause of the life. Being at the cause of your life means taking a full responsibility for:
The idea that accepting 100 % responsibility is extremely useful goes back far beyond NLP, of course, and is one of the key ideas underpinning the success of NLP. William James, known as a father of scientific psychology, used to be puzzled about whether we truly have a genuine free will, or whether our lives are results of genetic and environmental consequences. There are thousands of people out there blaming bad luck, blaming bad economy, blaming other people and lack of opportunity for where they are today. They live and remain at the Effect side of their life. They spend majority of their life by worrying and feeling sorry for themselves. They often feel stuck and look outside of them both for someone or something to blame and for help. There is a hidden gain in being at the effect side of equation. These ‘victims of life’ will get compassion of others, taps on the shoulders, support. They are often a centre of attention and they like it (often without realising it). This is a common case with depression. Every depressed person feels as a victim of external conditions. The people with a ‘victim attitude’ remain unaware of the tremendous power they already possess – the power that can alter their current situation. By blaming others and other circumstances for their situation they give up a power to change. Taking absolute responsibility for where you are today is incredibly empowering. It doesn’t mean that it is your fault!!! It simply means taking a full responsibility for your life, past and future. So, question is: “Which side are you on? Are you fully at the cause or at the effect side of your life?” Once you accept that it is you who is responsible for your own reality, soon you will realise that you have power to change this reality to anything you want. Taking a full responsibility for your current results and accepting your current situation is the very first step towards success, whatever success means to you. It may sound paradoxical, yet full acceptance of your current situation acts as an accelerator of your future success. It is far too easy to kick yourself for what you have not achieved until now and you should. It is quite easy to be unhappy about what you currently have or don’t have. If you can accept where you are today and are grateful for all the things you have and achieved so far, you will start sending positive suggestions to your unconscious mind. You are reading this, so you have access to a computer. There are millions of people out there who haven’t seen PC in their life! Comparing yourself to super successful people from the media is not useful. You can only assume their true levels success and happiness. We often tend to compare ourselves to our ‘more successful friends’, neighbours, competitors. Today, compare your current situation to people living 200 or 300 years ago. The chances are that you are probably 100 times richer and more successful than the majority of people living then. Gratitude is incredibly powerful and sends orders to our unconscious mind to create more opportunities to be grateful for. Be grateful for your home. Feeling of gratitude is incredibly powerful. It is an air of your success. Your gratitude will revive every endeavour and blow away every grey feeling. With attitude of gratitude for everything that you have and are now, you can be sure that only step you make from now on will be the step forward – and with each step you will be closer where you want to be, feeling grateful all the way. With gratitude, you will start to notice many things to be grateful for coming your way. "You simply will not be the same person two months from now after consciously giving thanks each day for the abundance that exists in your life. And you will have set in motion an ancient spiritual law: the more you have and are grateful for, the more will be given you." - Sarah Ban Breathnach |
